Orange Coast Velo was established in 1994 by a group of former USCF racers who wanted to create an atmosphere of friendship and companionship while maintaining a desired level of fitness. The club has continued to evolve with an expanding membership including different skill levels and varied goals but built around cycling.

Due to the diversity of our club members in terms of fitness level and riding objectives, we strive to maintain a variety of club rides. Our weekly calendar includes leisurely as well as fast-paced weekday rides. On Saturdays, we offer two ride options - one at medium distance and pace (40-50 miles, 17-21 mph) and a longer ride at a higher intensity (60-75 miles, 18-24 mph). Sunday's "recovery ride" is a moderately paced ride of about 32 miles. We are, above all, a social group, so each ride finishes up with a get-together over coffee and bagels.

Some of our charter members remain but our core values of friendship and fun cycling are very important to all members. You will find good riding experiences and the occasional opportunity to participate, along with spouses and significant others, in out-of-towners, including weekend trips to Ventura, Palm Springs, Sonoma and local events like the Amtrak Century. We also sponsor quarterly general membership dinner meetings as well as Christmas and summer parties and picnics.

We encourage the recruitment and involvement of safe and friendly cyclists of all levels.
